Finesville, NJ

Finesville is a Warren County census-designated place in Pohatcong Township, tucked along the Musconetcong River about a mile east of the Delaware River. The gorge sits between Pohatcong and Musconetcong mountains, and the river once powered an iron forge whose first dam was built around 1751. A ferry run by the Shank brothers crossed the Delaware before 1800, tying the small settlement to the larger river corridor. Nearby Hunts Meadow and Seigletown carry names from the area's Revolutionary-era and early industrial history.

The Finesville-Seigletown Historic District covers roughly 195 acres across the river valley and includes 97 contributing buildings, six structures, and five sites. Its story runs from the Chelsea Forge ironworks through farms, mills, roads, and village homes. The Finesville Dam, a nine-foot concrete structure built in 1952, was removed in 2011 to reopen fish passage along the Musconetcong. Today the community's map still reads through the river, the gorge, County Route 627, and the old buildings gathered around the former water-power sites.
