Five Points, NC

At the 2020 census, Five Points was a Hoke County census-designated place of 961 people in western North Carolina, eight miles northwest of Raeford. The original Five Points is the meeting of Calloway Road, Montrose Road, and North Horace Walters Road; the larger CDP stretches east to North Carolina Highway 211 and west to Pendergrass Road and Mountain Creek. It is a place named for a crossing, and the road network still does more to locate it than any formal downtown.

The landscape is organized by small waterways. Mountain Creek, Little Creek, and Buffalo Creek drain southwest toward Drowning Creek, which becomes the Lumber River farther downstream. That puts Five Points in the familiar Hoke County pattern of rural roads, wooded creek bottoms, scattered homes, and a nearby county seat handling larger errands. Pendergrass Road is the western edge people recognize, while the three original roads remain the key to the name. Five Points is a compact map lesson: a community can have a population, a ZIP code, and a census boundary while still feeling like a crossroads first.
