Flandreau, SD

Flandreau offers a quiet, small-town lifestyle along the Big Sioux River, just 40 minutes north of Sioux Falls and a few miles east of Interstate 29. Home to around 2,400 people, the town centers much of its outdoor recreation on the water. City Park features shaded campsites, ball fields, a boat launch, and the scenic Oxbow Wetlands Nature Trail. As the Moody County seat, Flandreau keeps daily essentials close at hand, with local schools, county offices, and neighborhood businesses all clustered within a few minutes of each other.

The community shares a close connection with the neighboring Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe, giving the area a rich cultural heritage. Tribal enterprises bring steady activity and local jobs to town, including the Royal River Casino and Hotel on the south side. Flandreau is also home to the historic Flandreau Indian School, one of the country's longest-running boarding schools for Native American high schoolers. That blend of tribal culture, county services, and riverfront parks gives Flandreau a distinct feel among eastern South Dakota towns.
