About Flovilla

Flovilla is a Butts County city founded in 1885 at the meeting of U.S. 23 and Georgia Highways 42 and 87. The name was coined to mean “village of flowers,” and Indian Springs sits about two miles west along Georgia 42. The springs have a long Creek history: treaties were made there in the 1820s, resort hotels followed, and the site became Georgia’s oldest state-owned recreation area. Indian Springs State Park now brings the lake, campground, and springs into the town’s orbit. Jackson, the county seat, is five miles northwest on U.S. 23, with Macon farther southeast. Flovilla is a small road-and-springs community whose town history and park history are hard to separate.
