About Flower Hill

Flower Hill works through three North Shore address areas without losing its own village government. Its western section is associated with Manhasset, the northeast with Port Washington, and the southeast with greater Roslyn, all within the Town of North Hempstead. Former farms and estates began giving way to planned residential streets in the early twentieth century, and residents incorporated the village in 1931. The 2024 five-year Census estimate counted 4,803 residents across roughly one and a half square miles; median value of an owner-occupied home was $1,975,500. St. Francis Hospital and Heart Center gives this small village a major medical presence. Founded in 1922 at 100 Port Washington Boulevard, it is New York's only specialty-designated cardiac center and also provides emergency, cancer, brain and spine, orthopedic, and other care. Across from Village Hall, Flower Hill Village Park has walking paths, playgrounds, and a basketball court, making the municipal center a recreation site as well as an administrative one.

The Flower Hill Historic Trail, created in 2021, links more than 100 points of interest through a network of local routes. Elderfields connects that history to current arts programming: the house dates to about 1675, and the Art Guild uses the preserve for gallery exhibitions, classes, workshops, and outdoor children's camps. Rail access lies outside the village boundary, but residents are eligible for permits at the Port Washington station, where the Long Island Rail Road's Port Washington Branch serves Penn Station and other New York stops. Those institutions distribute local life among a park, hospital, preserved estate, and nearby railhead rather than a single downtown.
