About Floydada

Floydada is Floyd County's seat on the High Plains of the Llano Estacado, where U.S. 62 and 70 meet. The town began in 1890 as Floyd City on 640 acres donated by James and Caroline Price; when the post office opened, the name changed to Floydada to avoid confusion with another Texas Floyd. The Pecos and Northern Texas railway arrived in 1910, and a second line followed in 1928. Pumpkins later gave Floydada its familiar Texas title. It is a courthouse town with a railroad past and a very specific fall crop.
