Ford City is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Kern County, California, situated immediately north of Taft. Originally established as an oil boom town between the Midway-Sunset and Buena Vista oil fields and named for the abundance of Model T cars, the community of approximately 4,162 is served by the Taft City School District.
