Forest, OH

Forest is a village in Hardin and Wyandot counties, built where the railroad reached the settlement in the 1850s. A post office dates to 1854, and the village was platted in 1855 when the line was extended to the site. That origin still helps orient the place: Forest sits in a flat agricultural part of northwest Ohio, with roads, freight routes, and neighboring farm communities doing the connecting that a larger town's downtown might handle.

The village calls itself Tree Town, and its present-day calendar is full of the nuts and bolts of local government: water works, street resurfacing, wastewater financing, utilities, permits, council meetings, and parks. National Night Out brings police, fire, and EMS into the same evening, while the village calendar and Tree Town Fest give residents a few lighter dates to circle. Forest is a small place with a working municipal agenda, a school-and-farm road setting, and a railroad beginning still visible in the way the village sits on the map.
