About Forrest

Forrest is a Livingston County village in central Illinois, with 1,041 residents in the 2020 census. Israel J. Krack laid out the village in 1866, served as its first station agent and postmaster, and gave his name to Krack Street. Railroads soon made Forrest a junction: the Toledo, Peoria and Western line brought east-west traffic, while the Wabash route later ran north and south. U.S. Route 24 now crosses the same farm country.

Forrest Railroad Park keeps that rail history visible through a surviving railroad turntable and plans for a reconstructed depot with a small museum and model-train display. The old lines connected the village to Chicago, Peoria, Kansas City, and nearby elevators and farms, making the tracks part of both commerce and everyday life. Today Forrest remains a compact village with a distinctive rail landmark at its center. Forrest is an Illinois village where a station agent’s plat, two railroad lines, a turntable, and open Livingston County fields meet.
