Fort Jennings, OH

Fort Jennings takes its name from an 1812 fort built for William Henry Harrison by Colonel William Jennings during the War of 1812. Settlement followed around 1850, and the village incorporated in 1881. The 2020 census counted 525 residents. Jennings Township and the village sit in Putnam County's flat farm country, with Water Street, Fourth Street, and the surrounding township roads shaping the local map.

Fort Jennings keeps its civic life close to the old center. Jennings Local School District runs elementary and high school programs at the Musketeer Drive campus, and the Putnam County District Library branch occupies a former school space at 655 North Water Street. Memorial Hall and Fort Jennings Park add gathering space for village events, while the village office and park board handle the nuts-and-bolts of a small incorporated place. The fort marker, school, library, and park all sit within a short drive of one another, so the town's War of 1812 name remains part of an everyday school-and-community landscape.
