Fort Stewart, GA

Located in southeast Georgia just southwest of Savannah, Fort Stewart sits right alongside the city of Hinesville and spans across Liberty and Bryan counties. Covering roughly 280,000 acres of pine flatwoods, wetlands, and open training grounds along the Canoochee River, it holds the title of the largest Army post east of the Mississippi River. Fort Stewart is paired with Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, creating a combined military community that gives service members and their families access to both expansive rural training grounds and the amenities of an energetic coastal city.

The installation is home to the storied 3rd Infantry Division, and its active presence is a familiar part of life throughout the area. You will regularly see unit movements on local roads, spot aircraft flying overhead, and hear distant training operations from the artillery ranges. The surrounding civilian towns take pride in supporting the troops, making it easy for newcomers to feel welcome. When you want to explore off duty, Savannah is only about forty-five minutes away, offering historic district walks, riverfront dining, and straightforward drives to the beaches at Tybee Island.
