About Fosston
Fosston is a Polk County city on U.S. 2, with its early story starting in the Rosebud Settlement south of town. Charles Adair was the first claimant among the covered-wagon families who arrived in 1876, and the city grew into the larger Grand Forks region. Sports are part of the local memory too: Fosston’s boys won Minnesota’s first state basketball championship in 1913, while the girls later put together a 78-game winning streak from 1999 to 2002. Fosston is northwest Minnesota with a pioneer beginning, a four-lane highway, and a basketball record that people still bring up.
