Fostoria, MI

Fostoria sits in Watertown Township, Tuscola County, with a post office and a crossroads identity shaped by the old Pere Marquette Railway. Michigan governor Henry H. Crapo once owned much of the pine forest around the settlement and had a rail line run through it; the community took the Fostoria name in 1881 from his foreman, Thomas Foster. The railroad turned a timber landscape into a place with mail, freight, and a reason for houses and stores to gather along the line.

Today Fostoria is an unincorporated community and census-designated place with scattered homes, farms, local roads, and the post office at the center of its everyday map. Watertown Township and nearby Tuscola County towns handle larger errands, schools, and work, while the old railway remains part of local memory. Pine country, rail history, and the practical scale of a crossroads settlement still fit together here. Fostoria feels less like a town with a hard boundary than a rural place held together by the line it grew beside.
