Fountain Valley, CA

Tucked right in the heart of Orange County, Fountain Valley is a tidy, easygoing suburban community bordered by Huntington Beach, Westminster, and the Santa Ana River. The city hosts the national headquarters of Hyundai Motor America as well as UCI Health's regional medical center, giving locals access to comprehensive healthcare and strong job opportunities right in town. Along main thoroughfares like Brookhurst and Warner Avenue, plazas are filled with grocery stores, bakeries, and an incredible lineup of restaurants influenced by neighboring Little Saigon. Long before suburban subdivisions arrived, the area was known for artesian springs and fertile farmland, which inspired the name Fountain Valley after its early days as Gospel Swamp.

That farming settlement formally incorporated in 1957, making history at its first council meeting by choosing Jim Kanno as the mainland United States' first Japanese American mayor. Today, the heart of local recreation revolves around Mile Square Regional Park, a massive 607-acre green space right in the center of town. It serves as the main outdoor gathering spot for the community, featuring two fishing lakes, golf courses, archery ranges, picnic shelters, and extensive athletic fields alongside the city's community recreation center.
