Four Corners, FL

West of Orlando, four county lines meet inside a community whose mailing addresses often name somewhere else. Northeast Polk, southeast Lake, southwest Orange, and northwest Osceola converge in Four Corners. The census-designated place has no single municipal government, so the county boundary determines many services. Its population rose from 26,116 in 2010 to 56,381 in 2020 as resort development and large subdivisions spread along U.S. 27 and U.S. 192. Postal labels such as Clermont, Davenport, and Kissimmee reflect mail routing and can obscure the responsible county. A street address may still require a second lookup to identify the applicable tax collector, school district, sheriff, library system, or permitting office.

The four counties have built practical tools around that complication. In September 2025, they launched a shared address search that maps a property to its county and links to the relevant agencies. A 2024 interlocal agreement had already authorized fact-finding and coordination among county officials while leaving governance with the four existing counties. The Four Corners Commissioners Task Force concluded its work in its established form in March 2026 as local business and community leaders created the independent 4 Corners Chamber of Commerce. The counties continued their cooperation on transportation, infrastructure, growth, emergency services, and environmental concerns. Local government remains divided four ways even as shared problems increasingly receive a regional response.

Public destinations make those lines easier to see. Cagan Crossings Community Library stands in the Lake County portion with a Clermont mailing address; the library system explicitly labels it "Cagan Crossings Library (Four Corners)." South on U.S. 27, Polk County's Northeast Regional Park uses a Davenport mailing address and provides athletic fields, courts, playground space, and trails. Both facilities fall within the Four Corners census boundary, yet each uses a separate county system and maintains its own calendar. Four Corners has no shared civic campus. Civic destinations are dispersed along the highway corridors, and an ordinary library visit, league practice, or service errand can cross a county line. The mailing city on a sign reveals less than the county logo beside it.

Osceola's portion shows how visitor commerce and protected habitat occupy the same fast-developing edge. The county defines West U.S. 192, from Kissimmee to the Polk line, as a tourism corridor where lodging, restaurants, shops, and entertainment concentrate. Hotels, attractions, construction sites, and property services make visitor- and growth-related work visible along the highway. At Westside Boulevard and Funie Steed Road, work began in December 2024 on Westside Technology Park. Despite its name, the project is a developing county recreation and conservation park on nearly 40 acres of Florida scrub within the Lake Wales Ridge; environmental education is part of the plan, and Osceola's fiscal 2026 budget retained funding. A drive through Four Corners can pass hotels, a county library, athletic fields, and ancient scrub habitat, with each destination tied to a different part of the four-county map.
