About Fox River
Fox River is a Kenai Peninsula community at the head of Kachemak Bay, about 24 miles northeast of Homer. The U.S. Geological Survey first reported the name in 1895, and local histories suggest it may honor Theodore Fox, a vice president of the North Pacific Mining and Transportation Company, which worked around the bay. The Fox River runs into the bay beside flats, creeks, and high ground north of Caribou Lake. Fox River is an Alaska place where a speculative name sits beside a very tangible bay.
