Francesville, IN

Francesville is a Pulaski County town in Salem Township, laid out when the railroad reached this part of northwest Indiana in 1853. It was named for Frances Brooks, the daughter of a railroad official, and the tracks gave the town its first strong connection to markets beyond the surrounding farm country. Today, the town sits along U.S. 421 with a compact main street, churches, homes, and the roads that run out through the fields. The town's name, library, and school district all carry the old railroad-era connection forward.

Francesville-Salem Township Public Library serves as a local gathering point, while West Central School Corporation carries K-12 education across western Pulaski County and into adjacent Jasper County. The Francesville Market, a community-owned grocery, gas station, deli, and pharmacy, fills a practical role in a town where everyday services matter. The old railroad story remains in the layout, but the present rhythm comes from school buses, farm traffic, library stops, and the cooperative businesses that keep the town supplied.
