About Franklin Farm

Franklin Farm names both a Fairfax County census-designated place in the Oak Hill area and a planned community within it. The CDP lies about 20 miles west of the White House and had 19,189 residents in 2020. Airline pilot James Franklin bought the namesake 100-acre farm in 1936 with $10,000 in sweepstakes winnings; it grew to 827 acres by 1979 and was then sold for development. Established in 1980, the planned community grew to 1,777 homes in 27 neighborhoods. The Franklin Farm Foundation serves as its homeowners association, and Fairfax County Parkway bisects the community. Its shared land includes 13 miles of trails, six fishing ponds, and 180 acres of open space.
