Pack burros, hot-air balloons, and chainsaw carving all use Frederick's parks to tell different parts of the town's story. The 2026 calendar put Frederick in Flight at Centennial Park in June, a four-day carving competition there in July, and Miners Day on September 19. Finished carvings become public art around town, while Miners Day's parade, burro race, market, performances, and fireworks recall the coal work that drew immigrant families to Frederick after its 1907 incorporation. Energy extraction is not only historical here: the town now sits within the oil- and gas-producing Wattenberg Field. Growth has changed the scale around that older core. Population rose from 14,513 in 2020 to an estimated 18,241 in July 2025, a 26 percent increase from the 2020 estimate base. Frederick Recreation Area supplies 129 acres around Milavec Lake for fishing, nonmotorized boating, a dog park, golf, a skate park, playgrounds, wildlife viewing, and trails.

A crushed-stone loop circles the reservoir for about one and a quarter miles, and another one and three-quarter miles of paved paths connect with neighborhood routes. Closer to downtown, Centennial Park combines an amphitheater and event grounds with a playground, fitness loop, fields, picnic shelters, and trail links. The town's 2020-through-2024 profile reflects its recent development: 95 percent of homes were owner-occupied, the median owner-occupied value was $568,300, monthly mortgage-holder costs were $2,482, and median gross rent was $2,381. Median household income was $129,460, and workers averaged 32 minutes of travel to work. Parks used for both everyday recreation and unusually specific festivals keep the mining-era identity visible amid rapid residential growth.
