Freeburn, KY

Freeburn sits along the Tug Fork riverbank in eastern Pike County, right where Peter Creek meets the water along the West Virginia state line. Like many small Appalachian mountain communities, life here has long been shaped by the steep hillsides, the river, and the coal mines that once powered the local economy. It grew as a tight-knit coal town centered around the Freeburn Coal and Coke Company, where generations of families built their lives along the valley floor.
