Freeport, MI

Freeport is a quiet village in northern Barry County, surrounded by open farmland and scenic West Michigan countryside. First settled in the mid-1800s, the community grew around local mills and the early promise of a rail line that connected rural growers to regional markets. Today, that history is still visible in its historic homes, mature trees, and walkable residential streets, giving the town an easygoing, neighborly atmosphere.

With around 550 residents, Freeport has stayed roughly the same size for over a century, offering a true small-town environment where people know their neighbors. It is a peaceful place to put down roots, with local parks, community events, and plenty of nearby lakes and trails to explore.
