About Fremont

Fremont got its start in the 1800s as a quiet farming crossroads called Nahunta. Everything changed when the railroad arrived in 1840, turning the tiny Wayne County settlement into a bustling hub for local timber and crops. The community was later renamed Fremont in honor of the rail line’s superintendent and officially incorporated shortly after the Civil War.
