Fremont, WI

Fremont is a Waupaca County village wrapped by the Town of Fremont and cut through the middle by the Wolf River. Partridge Lake sits just upstream, so water is part of the street plan, summer calendar, and local vocabulary. The river also carries older cultural layers: this region is part of the traditional homelands of the Menominee and Potawatomi peoples, and the Menominee name Penawikoh is associated with partridge place.

Fremont's best recurring spectacle arrives with the fish. White bass make spawning runs in May and again from late September into October, while the wider Wolf River system is tied to lake sturgeon and Menominee ceremonial traditions. Partridge Lake Park, the riverfront, boat launches, and village parks keep that water close; the Weyauwega-Fremont School District and St. John's Lutheran School supply the school connections.
