Frost, TX

Frost is a Navarro County city at the junction of State Highway 22 and Farm Road 667, about twenty miles west of Corsicana. The St. Louis Southwestern Railway established the town in 1881 on its route from Corsicana to Hillsboro, and businesses moved in from the nearby settlement of Cross Roads. The town was named for Samuel R. Frost, a local politician and railroad attorney; a post office opened in 1887 and Frost incorporated in 1893. Cotton gins, an oil mill, banks, stores, and a school followed.

Frost remains an agricultural community, with the old rail alignment and farm roads still shaping its place in western Navarro County. Frost Independent School District serves local students, while State Highway 22 connects the city to Corsicana and Hillsboro. A Texas Historical Commission marker on Front Street remembers the town’s Cross Roads beginning, early churches and schools, and the 1930 tornado that damaged much of the built-up area. Frost is a small Texas city whose identity comes from a railroad town plan and the farm country around it.
