About Fruita

Fruita is a western Colorado city near the Colorado River, west of Grand Junction and close to Colorado National Monument. The area was home to Ute people before farmers settled the town after founder William Pabor arrived in 1884, and irrigation water first reached Fruita from the Colorado River in 1907. Today Fruita is known for its pinyon-juniper landscape, mountain biking, dinosaur country, and access to desert canyons, giving it a more rugged outdoor identity than its size suggests.
