Fulton, TX

Fulton is an Aransas County town on the western shore of Aransas Bay, just north of Rockport. George Ware Fulton gave the town his name after turning his wife Harriet Smith Fulton’s land inheritance into a ranching and meatpacking enterprise along the Texas coast. The Fultons built Oakhurst, now the Fulton Mansion State Historic Site, between 1874 and 1877. Its French Second Empire design, gas lighting, central heating, and indoor plumbing made it a remarkable Gulf Coast house for its era.

Fulton’s working waterfront is still the clearest way to understand the town. The Fulton Fishing Pier reaches into Aransas Bay with fishing lights, pole rentals, and access for anglers, while Fulton Harbor and the surrounding shoreline connect the town to the wider Rockport–Fulton fishing economy. Aransas County Independent School District serves local students, and Rockport supplies the county-seat services immediately south. Fulton is a coastal town where cattle wealth, a grand Victorian mansion, fishing boats, bay water, and a long pier all meet on the Live Oak Peninsula.
