Furnace Creek, CA

Furnace Creek is a true desert oasis sitting 190 feet below sea level in the heart of Death Valley. Originally settled around local natural springs during the 1880s mining boom, it has evolved into the primary residential and service hub for the area. Today, the community is home to a small group of park rangers, resort staff, and hospitality workers who keep the surrounding national park running year-round.

Relocating here means embracing an exceptionally remote lifestyle shaped by record summer heat and stunning desert scenery. Daily necessities are centered around the park visitor center, a small general store, a post office, and the local resort amenities. Major shopping and medical trips require a couple of hours on the road to Pahrump or Las Vegas, but locals enjoy a quiet, close-knit community and some of the clearest night skies in the country.
