Water has shaped Gahanna from the very beginning. The name comes from a Native American word meaning three creeks joining into one, which you will still spot referenced on the official city seal. Founded along Big Walnut Creek in the mid-1800s, Gahanna eventually absorbed its neighboring rival settlement across Granville Street before growing into the welcoming suburb of around 36,000 residents you find today.
