Gannett, ID

Gannett is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Blaine County, Idaho, with 174 people at the 2020 census. It lies eight miles southeast of Bellevue on Gannett Road, between State Highway 75 and U.S. Route 20. The road sits inside the farming triangle south of Bellevue, where Blaine County identifies most of its farms around Highway 20, Highway 75, and Gannett Road. Hay fields, small farms, horse properties, and grazing land make the working landscape visible in a county often associated with Sun Valley.

Gannett's transportation history is older than the resort economy. The Kilpatrick brothers built the Wood River Branch of the Oregon Short Line in 1882-83, using willow branches and hay bales to support the railbed through swampy ground between Picabo and Gannett; the nearby rail stop became known as Hay Spur. Today the Blaine County School District serves the community, county emergency communications includes Gannett, and College of Southern Idaho lists the county in its catchment area without placing it in the college's tax zone. The local scoop is a small valley community whose daily map is made of farm roads, school boundaries, and the route between Bellevue and the southern county.
