About Garcon Point

Garcon Point is a Santa Rosa County CDP on the peninsula between Escambia Bay and Blackwater Bay, with US 281 and the Garcon Point Bridge providing its main connection to Gulf Breeze and the rest of the county. The land has a much older story than the road: in the 1700s, Yamasee and Apalachee communities established the San Antonio de Punta Rasa mission on the peninsula, and Garcon Point became part of the Spanish Florida frontier. Today Yellow River Marsh Preserve State Park protects wet prairie and pitcher-plant habitat on the point. There is no separate downtown here; Garcon Point is understood through its bays, bridge, preserved marsh, and long history as a meeting place between Florida's inland and coastal routes.
