Garfield, AR

Garfield is a Benton County town in northwest Arkansas, northeast of Rogers and just east of Pea Ridge National Military Park. The 2020 census counted 593 residents. The town was platted in 1883, and its post office has operated since 1887. U.S. Route 62 runs through Garfield, linking the town with Rogers and the smaller communities of the Benton County hills. It is part of the Northwest Arkansas metropolitan region without losing its rural-road scale.

Garfield’s 1941 elementary school building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, tells the town’s school story in brick. The school served local children until 2024, when enrollment and financial pressures led to its closure; Garfield students now attend Rogers schools, while a northern portion of town lies in the Pea Ridge district. Hamilton Park sits beside U.S. 62, giving the highway a local green space and a place for town events. Garfield is a small crossroads that still carries its railroad-era layout, its historic school building, and the changing school and commuting ties of fast-growing Benton County.
