Gargatha, VA

Gargatha is a census-designated place in Accomack County on Virginia's Eastern Shore. The 2020 census counted 415 residents, and the CDP sits only 16 feet above sea level. U.S. 13 passes through the community, with Gargatha Road and Gargatha Landing Road tying the highway corridor to the surrounding farm and marsh landscape. Accomack County's road maps place Gargatha among the small communities near Bloxom and the Atlantic-side inlets, so the place is experienced through scattered homes, fields, and long county roads instead of a municipal downtown.

There is no incorporated town government inside the CDP; roads, emergency addressing, and other public services are handled through the county and the wider Eastern Shore system. The larger county setting is a working mix of cropland, marsh, woods, and small historic settlements.
