Garrett, TX

Garrett is an Ellis County town just north of Ennis, along Farm Road 879 and near Interstate 45. The 2020 census counted 829 residents. Its story is a railroad story: in the early 1870s, the Waxahachie Tap Road met the Houston and Texas Central Railway here, turning Garrett into a shipping point for county farmers and businesses. At its busiest, fifteen passenger trains a day passed through. The town incorporated in 1956, after regular rail service had already faded, so Garrett's current small-town map sits on top of an older transportation hub.

Garrett still keeps its civic life close to the old center. City Hall and municipal court handle the public basics, while the town's location between Ennis, Palmer, and I-45 makes it easy to step into the larger Ellis County network. The early community had a post office, churches, businesses, and a school; the modern version is quieter, but the same pattern remains: a small place with its own government, a recognizable downtown, and a practical connection to the roads that replaced the trains. Garrett feels like a town that never lost the memory of being a stop on the way somewhere.
