About Garrison

Garrison is a city in Benton County, Iowa, United States. The 2020 census counted 344 residents. Garrison is part of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Statistical Area. Garrison was named for the farmer, Nelson Garrison, who had the post office in his home west of town. The Old Creamery Theatre Company is a not-for-profit professional theatre founded in 1971 in Garrison. Ten theatre colleagues formed the company in a vacant building that had once served the community of Garrison as a co-op dairy. The short version is that Garrison carries an earlier story into the places people know and use now. That is the local read on Garrison: its past remains attached to the places people use now. He owned the property in 1872. Garrison includes the Old Creamery Theatre.
