About Garrison

Garrison is a McLean County city that began when the Soo Line reached the area in 1905, then moved north to its present site as the tracks extended. The town took its name from Garrison Creek and organized as a village in 1907. It sits a few miles north of Lake Sakakawea, with Fort Stevenson State Park nearby and Highway 83 connecting the town between Minot and Bismarck. Garrison's older nickname was the Agricultural Gateway City; the railroad, farmland, and lake still give the place its shape.
