About Gary

Gary is a Lake County city on the southern shore of Lake Michigan, founded in 1906 by U.S. Steel to serve the massive Gary Works plant. Its industrial rise, population loss, and economic struggles are central to the city's story, but so are its lakefront, architecture, music history, and proximity to Chicago.
