About Gascoyne
Gascoyne is a Bowman County city that began in 1907 as the Milwaukee Road townsite of Fischbein. The name changed in 1908 to honor a railroad construction foreman, and the town incorporated in 1911. Lignite later gave the rail corridor another role: in 1975, unit trains carried low-sulphur coal from the Gascoyne mine to the Big Stone Power Plant in South Dakota. The town’s name and working history remain tied to the line that established it.
