About Gatesville

Gatesville is a city and the county seat of Coryell County, Texas, located along the Leon River within the Killeen–Temple–Fort Hood metropolitan area. Established in 1854 near the site of historic Fort Gates, the city of approximately 16,200 houses the Coryell County Museum. Gatesville is notable for hosting five state correctional facilities for women, including the Patrick O'Daniel Unit, and holds the annual Prison Boss Cookoff as a major community fundraiser.
