Gay is a tiny Meriwether County community of just over a hundred residents, offering quiet country living and scenic farmland about an hour south of Atlanta. Tucked near the Flint River, it has the relaxed feel of an old-fashioned rural crossroads, surrounded by open pastures and historic homesteads. Most of the year is peaceful and unhurried, but the town springs to life every spring and fall for the well-known Cotton Fair. Hosted around the town's preserved 19th-century cotton gin and peach sheds, the festival brings in craft vendors, good food, and visitors from across the region.
