About Geistown

Geistown is a Cambria County borough in the Johnstown metropolitan area, about four miles southeast of downtown Johnstown along the Bedford Street and Johnstown-Windber road corridor. Its early center included the Orchard Hotel and a small roadside business district, then changed shape when Bedford Street was widened and traffic was moved away from the old center. Sanitary sewers, a new fire hall, and the borough building followed in the 1960s, giving Geistown the municipal layout it carries today. Geistown Borough Hall, fire services, local shops, the Bedford Street corridor, and Highland Regional Park give the borough its own municipal layer beside Johnstown's larger city center.

The Geistown Shopping Center and nearby Richland-area businesses handle many regional errands, while borough roads and residential streets run between those commercial spaces and downtown Johnstown. The local scoop is that the place is defined by a road shift: the old center was bypassed, and the newer route became the commercial face of the borough. You can still read both versions in the hotel-era history and the current street layout.
