Geraldine, AL

Geraldine is a DeKalb County town on Sand Mountain, set between Rainsville and Albertville where State Routes 75 and 227 meet. The town was incorporated in the mid-1950s, but its school story is older: area schools consolidated into Geraldine School in 1911, the first class graduated in 1915, and the school earned county accreditation in 1921. That gives the town a useful sense of continuity, with the K-12 campus still at the center of the local map.

Geraldine takes its sports seriously. The Bulldogs won three straight state basketball championships from 1931 through 1933, and the football program began in 1923. The town's annual Fourth of July picnic and Christmas parade keep the calendar grounded in local tradition, while Sand Mountain sets the wider landscape—higher than the surrounding valleys and close enough to Lake Guntersville for a day trip. Geraldine is a small DeKalb County town built around a school, two highways, and a long-running habit of turning school events into community events.
