Gerber, CA

Gerber is a Tehama County census-designated place on the north bank of Elder Creek, between Interstate 5 and State Route 99. The Sacramento Valley farmland around it is a mix of orchards, grain, cattle, and pasture, while the town itself sits at about 226 feet above sea level. Gerber was platted in 1910 for the Gerber family, and its post office has operated since 1916. The 2020 census counted 1,044 residents.

Tehama County calls Gerber a rural service center, and local life still runs through the practical links around it. Gerber Park has picnic areas, barbecue grills, a basketball court, volleyball area, soccer and baseball fields, and a playground. Gerber Union Elementary serves kindergarten through eighth grade, while county agriculture and irrigation offices support the farm landscape beyond the homes. Gerber is a compact northern California community where a named creek, working fields, a school, and a well-used park make up the daily map. The creek also gives the town a clear edge, separating the compact neighborhood from fields, irrigation ditches, and open valley ground.
