Germania, NJ

Germania is an Atlantic County census-designated place in western Galloway Township, with U.S. 30 brushing its southern edge and Egg Harbor City a few miles northwest. The 2020 census counted 297 residents. Clarks Mill Stream forms the southeastern boundary as it runs toward Nacote Creek and the tidal Mullica River, so the place sits in a very South Jersey mix of road, marsh, and wooded watercourses. Cologne lies to the south, while the road opens toward Hammonton in one direction and Atlantic City in the other.

Germania is small enough that its school boundaries do much of the community’s organizing. Elementary students fall within Galloway Township schools, while older students attend through the Greater Egg Harbor Regional district, with Absegami High School serving the township. The map says a lot about Germania: it is not a separate municipality with its own town hall, but a named pocket inside a larger township, connected by Route 30 and the streams at its edge. Its local feel comes from that in-between position, rural roads within reach of the shore cities and the wider South Jersey landscape.
