Germanton, NC

Germanton is a Stokes County–Forsyth County census-designated place on North Carolina Highways 8 and 65, about 13 miles south of Danbury. Established in 1790, it was Stokes County’s first seat and remains one of the county’s oldest named places. The community’s county-seat chapter ended when Forsyth County was carved from southern Stokes, but that earlier role still gives Germanton its historical weight. Its map sits between the Stokes County seat and Winston-Salem, with the old settlement line running through the northern Piedmont. The local shorthand is former county seat, two-county community, Highway 8, and the road between Danbury and Winston-Salem.
