About Gilbert

Gilbert is a tiny Searcy County town in the Arkansas Ozarks, counted as the smallest municipality in the state in the 2020 census. It began in 1902 as a railroad construction camp for the Missouri and North Arkansas Railroad and was named for Charles W. Gilbert. The town is served by the Ozark Mountain School District, with a K-12 campus in nearby St. Joe. Gilbert is small, historic, and strongly tied to its Ozark river-country setting.
