Glendale, UT

Glendale is a Kane County town in Long Valley, set along the East Fork of the Virgin River at about 5,800 feet. U.S. Route 89 runs through the valley, with Orderville a few miles south and the road north leading toward Panguitch. Ranchers first used the valley in the 1860s, the Berry family called the settlement Berryville, and Mormon settlers from the Muddy River area established Glendale in 1871. The town was incorporated in 1935.

Today Glendale works as a small base for the country around Zion, Bryce Canyon, Grand Staircase-Escalante, and Coral Pink Sand Dunes. Campgrounds, cabins, local shops, and lodging sit beside a highway used by visitors and residents moving through southern Utah. Long Valley's farms, cottonwoods, red-rock slopes, and river bends keep the town tied to its setting even as travelers pass through. The valley remains a working landscape. Glendale is a high-country Utah town where a settlement history, a working river valley, and several major landscapes meet along one road.
