Glendo, WY

Glendo sits at the turn where Interstate 25 meets the town road into the reservoir. It was incorporated in 1922 after the railroad established the present town site; before that, the area was tied to an Overland Stage telegraph station at Horseshoe Stage Station. The California, Oregon, and Mormon trails all passed south of town, leaving Glendo with an unusually dense travel history. The North Platte River and Glendo Reservoir now make the state park, three miles southeast of town, Glendo's most visible regional connection.

Glendo State Park covers 22,000 acres around the reservoir, with 45 miles of nonmotorized trails, six boat ramps, and 19 campgrounds. The reservoir also supports irrigation, power generation, flood control, and recreation along the North Platte. Town events bring the activity back into Glendo: Glendo Days, craft fairs, street dances, fishing tournaments, ranch rodeos, chariot races, and fly-ins. Glendo's map joins an old overland corridor to a working water project and a town calendar built around the lake.
