Glidden, IA

Glidden is a Carroll County city on US 30, just outside Carroll, with a town plan that grew from the railroad and surrounding farm country. It was laid out in 1866, and the name may honor Captain W. T. Glidden, a railroad promoter, or Joseph Farwell Glidden, the barbed-wire inventor. That bit of uncertainty is part of the local story rather than something the town has to smooth over.

Glidden–Ralston Community School District houses elementary, middle, and high school students in one building serving Glidden and neighboring Ralston.
