Gold Hill, OR

Gold Hill sits on a bend of the Rogue River in Jackson County, east of Rogue River and northwest of Central Point and Medford. The 2020 census counted 1,335 residents. Its name comes from a nearby hill tied to a gold discovery at Big Bar in the early 1850s, when Colonel William T'Vault and his family made the Dardanelles claim on the river's south side. That origin gives the town a clear connection to the Rogue Valley's mining era. Today, Interstate 5 and Oregon Route 99 put Gold Hill on the north-south route through the valley, while the river shapes its recreation and small-town map.

The Oregon Vortex is a roadside attraction near town, and Nugget Falls north of town is associated with whitewater kayaking. City parks and river settings give residents places to spend time outdoors, while nearby Medford and Central Point supply the larger regional network. Gold Hill is small in scale, yet its landmarks are easy to read: gold country on the hill, the river below, and the freeway beside it.
