Goodland, IN

Goodland is a Newton County town in Grant Township, in northwest Indiana near the Illinois line. It was laid out in the 1860s on soil that early residents considered especially productive, and that soil still gives the town its agricultural frame. The Goodland-Grant Township Public Library, also called the Mitten Memorial Building, is listed on the National Register and sits among the town's most recognizable civic landmarks. Goodland also hosts the annual Goodland Grand Prix Festival and Goodstock Music Festival, with the latter raising money for local veterans.

Just outside town, the Kentland crater quarry sits between Goodland and Kentland, adding an unusual geological feature to the flat farm-country map. The school system connects Goodland with South Newton, so nearby towns share a school line even as Goodland keeps its own town hall, library, festivals, and fire service. Goodland's character comes from that mix: productive ground, a historic library, motors and music on the calendar, and two neighboring towns connected by roads and the old quarry landscape.
